Blender Game Engine Scripting Tutorial Input Process Output Method 2 Plus Format, Cursor, Delete

This is the second tutorial that looks at text entry in the game engine. This tutorial uses a different technique to the previous tutorial. This tutorial also looks at formatting numbers and experiments with a cursor to make input easier for the user.

In this version keyboard logging is not used. The script responds only to the digit keys and few other keys. When letter keys are pressed, there is no code to do anything so they are ignored.

The example application in this case is again inputting a distance in miles and outputting the distance in kilometres.

The pressing the enter key script is the same as in the first tutorial.

The tutorial experiments with adding a cursor that makes entering text easier for the user. Coding interface components like text boxes is a fairly specialist area. The code added is basic, not very robust and needs more work but as there is not a ready written text box available it is a start.
