Oak & Maple Inlay Art Serving Tray, Handled Cutting Board, Cherry & Maple Glue-Up 2, Step 8, #shorts

Oak & Maple Inlay Art Serving Tray, Handled Cutting Boards, Step 8, Glue-up 2. The cherry & maple glue-ups are ready to be released and sent through the planer. Then, we’ll square up the sides on the table saw.
These inlays will have an oak strip running through the center cut. Brett prepped the oak strips on the bandsaw & drum sander. Next, the glue-ups will be stacked before they go to the bandsaw. The bandsaw will make the swooping cut through the 2 stacks. Finally, the last glue-up for the inlay sections.

Step 7-
Table saw to square up the pieces. A few passes through the drum sander before glue-ups. There will be a few sections of cherry and maple in order to make the design Brett has in mind.

Step 6 –
Processing our own lumber takes more time, but is worth the results.
The oak board blanks are ready for the cherry & maple inlay design. Brett’s unbinding, removing bark, and slicing the slabs. The planer will level one side before we head to the table saw.

Step 5 –
The boards are rough cut on the bandsaw. The router table combined with our template will give the final shape. Our oak blanks are ready for their inlays. Brett will cut and prep the maple & cherry next.

Step 4 –
The glue-ups have been released & are headed to the planer.
We made a custom template for our handled boards and will get it traced onto the oak. Bandsaw will make the outline cuts.

Step 3 –
Table saw to square up oak strips. Once these are ready, we’ll get them
glued up.

Step 2 –
Bandsaw to remove bark and slice planks into strips.
Planer to level. Next, the table saw to square up the edges.

Step 1 –
Slab Prep to begin the new cutting board, and serving tray design.

In the fall of 2022, we made a kiln and filled it with freshly milled slabs. Two lots were cleared north of us and we couldn’t watch them put these huge trees into the dumpsters. This is the 2nd Kiln Drying Run. Let’s see how many projects we can complete from this second run!

As always Thank you so much for watching our progress!
