Board feet is a volume calculation and it’s how lumber yards price and sell lumber. Here’s how to use a Construction Master 5 to calculate board feet and the cost without memorizing a formula:
Multiply all the dimensions of the boards you need. So if you want 2×4’s cut in 12 ft lengths multiply 2 x 4 in x 12. Then push BD FT.
Multiply by the number of boards you need in that size. If you have more sizes, you can push M+ to store this value in memory.
Repeat steps 1 and 2 for any other board dimensions.
Now we have 2 Bd Ft units stored in memory, so push RCL
M+ to add those values.
Multiply by the cost of lumber per 1,000 Bd Ft (here we’re using $725).
Push CONV
to convert into dollars.
