Ep. 04 | Building Levels with Unity’s Tilemap System | Let’s Make A Metroidvania in Unity!

Build better levels with Unity Tilemaps!
In this episode of the Metroidvania Tutorial Series, we replace placeholder boxes with real tilemaps, add layered backgrounds, and set up colliders so your player can finally walk on solid ground.

👉 Subscribe to follow along and build your own 2D Metroidvania!

🎬 In this video, you’ll learn how to:
– Import and configure free pixel art tilemaps
– Set pixels per unit, filter mode, and format for clean visuals
– Organize your hierarchy with World, Background, and Ground objects
– Slice tiles properly in the Sprite Editor
– Create tile palettes and paint levels quickly
– Add Tilemap Collider 2D + Composite Collider for smooth collision
– Set up a background tilemap with parallax-ready layering
– By the end, your world will look alive—and be ready to explore.

👉 Next episode: we’ll add Cinemachine Camera controls to follow the player and create a more dynamic world.
