This is the first of a three part series of training videos on how to use Cryengine game assets (from games such as MechWarrior Online or Star Citizen) in 3D graphics programs such as Blender.

Software you will (probably) need:
7zip software: http://www.7-zip.org/
Noesis software: http://www.richwhitehouse.com/index.php?content=inc_res.php
Cryengine model plugin for Noesis (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/81602544/cryengine_cgf.dll)
Blender (3D modeling/animation software): http://blender.org (can replace this with 3DS Max, Maya, or other modeling software)
GIMP (fancy photoshop application): http://gimp.org (optional, depending on how easily you want to skin your mechs)
GIMP .dds plugin (to flip image files): http://code.google.com/p/gimp-dds/
