Game Dev Experiments episode 2: recreating the dappled lighting effect from Tunic.
In this Unity tutorial I take a basic starting scene and convert it to look more like the East Forest level from the game Tunic, by altering the lighting and adding some post-processing effects. Most importantly I also show how to use light cookies to achieve a lovely dappled lighting effect to make it look more like a forest setting. I also cover using custom render textures to help add multiple layers onto one light cookie for a more interesting effect.
I’ll show how this can be achieved using both the original Unity built-in renderer and also the newer Universal Render Pipeline (URP).
