Purpose: Versus Game Update (UPBGE Eevee) #8

Back again with another update video and a change of scenery; for development will now continue in this new temp map which I’m still working on. This new location is a rooftop (WIP) of one of the districts of « Advent City » which is the main-setting for the story of Purpose: Versus and Purpose: The Anime. I also aim to have the districts you go to fully explorable, though that will come in the final stages of development for this game.

Also, you may or may not have noticed this already, but I have upgraded Kaleb’s character model. I baked my own PBR textures and texture-painted a skin UV map from scratch for the new model and also adjusted the hair to make it easier to animate when I get onto that stage. I forgot to add that in the video, but if you follow my regular progress updates on Twitter and Instagram (@purposeversus), you’d know this already.

This video showcases the new features I’ve added to the movement system to make it more fast-pace, which is what I originally intended. I wanted a movement system that had the same level of pacing as Nier: Automata’s and with the rest of the basic mechanics out the way, I was finally able to develop the upgrades to the movement that you see in the video. The flips and quicker, more agile movement is to make the battle system (which I am about to develop next) and the parkour flow much faster and feel more dynamic and adrenaline pumping. For this video, unfortunately due to the current worldwide situation, the « How It Works » segment for this video is cancelle.. just kidding, however I haven’t added the « How It Works » section, explaining how I developed what you see in this video, since I haven’t really done anything too significant that warrants any in-detail explanation yet (though do let me know in the comments if you want know how I did anything in the video and I’ll do my best to answer), however for update #9, where I will go over the battle system, expect a nice, chunky and informative explanation on how I developed it, because I know it will definitely be something a lot of you are going to want to know the logic behind.

But on a serious note, stay safe, wash your hands regularly and if we’re still in quarantine by summer/winter, get the demo of Purpose: Versus and buy the full game when they release to ease your boredom.
